LOCAL CONTEST: WASHINGTON WESTERN
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington will conduct preliminary judging for this contest. The top three local contest winners in the essay and video competitions will receive prizes of $2,000 for 1st place, $1,000 for 2nd place, and $500 for 3rd place.
Honorable Mention certificates will be awarded to the three next best essays and videos. The top three finalists who placed in the local competition will go on to compete in the Ninth Circuit contest. All winners and honorable mention recipients will be invited to a reception at the courthouse in their honor. To be eligible to compete in the local contest, students must reside in one of these counties: Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum, or Whatcom.
